There are 25 Ekadashis in 2027. The first is Saphala Ekadashi on Sunday, 3 January 2027, and the year closes with Saphala Ekadashi again on Thursday, 23 December 2027. Saphala appears twice because the lunar year and the calendar year do not line up, so 2027 has one more Ekadashi than the usual 24.

All dates below are the Smarta fasting dates for New Delhi as calculated by Drik Panchang, with tithi and parana times in IST. Dates may vary by a day by location, especially outside India. Where Drik Panchang shows a separate Vaishnava (ISKCON-style) date, it is noted in the last column. New to the fast? Start with what Ekadashi is and how to observe it.

Some parana windows start in the afternoon (Pausha Putrada, Papamochani, Nirjala, Kamika, Shravana Putrada, Rama and Mokshada). On those days Hari Vasara — the first quarter of Dwadashi, when the fast should not be broken — lasts beyond the early morning, and since parana is traditionally avoided at midday, the window moves to the afternoon.

Smarta and Vaishnava Ekadashi in 2027

When the Ekadashi tithi is present at two sunrises, two dates can appear:

  • Smarta (householder) date: the first day, listed in the main table above.
  • Gauna or Vaishnava date: the second day, often followed by sannyasis, widows, and Vaishnava traditions such as ISKCON.

In 2027 Drik Panchang shows the second date for Pausha Putrada (19 January), Kamika (30 July) and Rama Ekadashi (26 October). ISKCON publishes its own calendar, which can differ on other dates as well, so follow your temple’s list if you belong to a sampradaya.

Important Ekadashis of 2027

  • Nirjala Ekadashi — 14 June: the strictest fast of the year, kept without water. Many people who cannot fast every Ekadashi keep this one.
  • Devshayani Ekadashi — 14 July: Vishnu enters yogic sleep and the four months of Chaturmas begin.
  • Devutthana Ekadashi — 10 November: Vishnu awakens, Chaturmas ends and the wedding season opens. See the Dev Uthani Ekadashi guide for the puja, and the Tulsi Vivah story for the next day.
  • Mokshada Ekadashi — 9 December: also Gita Jayanti, the day the Bhagavad Gita is said to have been spoken.

How to keep the Ekadashi fast

  1. Dashami (the day before): eat one simple sattvic meal before sunset and avoid grains in the evening.
  2. Ekadashi: take a sankalpa after bathing, worship Vishnu or Krishna with tulsi leaves, and avoid rice, wheat, pulses and other grains. Choose the level of fast you can sustain — waterless, fruit and milk, or one phalahar meal.
  3. Read or listen to the katha: the Hindi Ekadashi vrat katha, Utpanna Ekadashi katha and Mokshada Ekadashi katha are good places to start.
  4. Dwadashi: break the fast within the parana window, ideally with a little tulsi water and simple food.

Pregnant women, the elderly, children and anyone with a medical condition should keep a lighter fast or simply observe the day with prayer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Ekadashis are there in 2027?

There are 25 Ekadashi fasting days in 2027 by the Gregorian calendar year. A lunar year normally has 24 Ekadashis, but in 2027 Saphala Ekadashi (Pausha Krishna Ekadashi) falls twice: on 3 January and again on 23 December.

When is the first Ekadashi of 2027?

The first Ekadashi of 2027 is Saphala Ekadashi on Sunday, 3 January 2027. The tithi runs from 2:24 PM on 2 January to 4:08 PM on 3 January (New Delhi), and parana is on 4 January between 7:15 AM and 9:19 AM.

When is Nirjala Ekadashi in 2027?

Nirjala Ekadashi is on Monday, 14 June 2027. The Ekadashi tithi runs from 2:11 AM on 14 June to 2:07 AM on 15 June, and the fast is broken on 15 June between 1:45 PM and 4:33 PM in New Delhi.

When is Dev Uthani Ekadashi in 2027?

Dev Uthani (Devutthana or Prabodhini) Ekadashi is on Wednesday, 10 November 2027, with parana on 11 November between 6:40 AM and 8:50 AM in New Delhi. Tulsi Vivah follows on 11 November.

Why do some calendars show a different Ekadashi date?

When Ekadashi touches two sunrises, Smarta householders fast on the first day and Vaishnavas (ISKCON and similar traditions) often fast on the second. In 2027 this happens for Pausha Putrada (18 or 19 January), Kamika (29 or 30 July) and Rama Ekadashi (25 or 26 October). Local sunrise can also move a date by a day.

What is the parana time and why does it matter?

Parana is the window for breaking the Ekadashi fast on the next day. It should be done after sunrise, after Hari Vasara (the first quarter of Dwadashi) is over, and before Dwadashi ends. Breaking the fast outside this window is traditionally considered to reduce the merit of the vrat.
